Password Breaker |
Review: Password Breaker is a utility that can generate a combination of characters in order to determine the password for a protected application or ZIP file. However, it is necessary to mention that this application does not have the capacity to reveal the password or determine when the correct password has been entered, but it simply tries all the possible combinations of the characters set you select. The software allows you verify a password by using the built-in job wizard. You only have to follow a few simple steps to generate password combinations. First, you choose to create a new job or import an existing one, set the target file type (EXE or ZIP), enter a job name and a small description. Password Breaker allows you to configure the character lists, including small and capital letters, digits, symbols and space. Configuring the password template means you have to select the number of blocks and character sets. The program can be set to consider character repetition or not. The main window displays all the pending and completed jobs and detailed information about each one of them. Thus, you can view the total number of characters, the maximum length and the number of generated passwords. As mentioned before, the program only supports determining the possible passwords for executable and ZIP files and not other protected file types. One other drawback of the program concerns the hotkeys. Although it comes with predefined hotkeys for running, stopping and pausing the current jobs, users are not allowed to change them. Although its name suggests it, Password Breaker does not actually break passwords. Its purpose is to generate all the possible combination of characters, in order to help you determine the password and access the protected file. |

101 All to CD DVD Burner |
Review: 101 All to CD DVD Burner is a complete CD burning solution that allows users to create data and audio CDs, with multiple other features supposed to enhance the whole process. As it usually happens with full-featured burning products, 101 All to CD DVD Burner asks users to select the burning job they wish to start from the get-go, so the main window is designed especially with this goal in mind. Users are capable of choosing to burn a data CD or an audio one, burn an MP3 data CD, clone a disc, build or burn an ISO, schedule a project, erase a disc or access options to configure the burning engine. There?s no chance to get lost in the pre-burning interface because it?s very similar to the ones already seen in other burning products, with a multi-panel layout for easy file selection. Drag and drop is of course available, with a file browser also provided to easily choose the files to be burned to disc. Just as expected, 101 All to CD DVD Burner allows its users to create multisession and bootable discs, with the settings menu offering access to a bunch of options such as the Joliet file system, close disc, underrun protection, test write and CloseTrack. What?s more, users are allowed to adjust the software buffer size and configure sounds, interface and skin for a more appealing look. The burning engine is fast and doesn?t affect the overall system performance, working smoothly on all Windows versions. All things considered, 101 All to CD DVD Burner is indeed an advanced CD burning product, serving its purpose with the help of a straightforward interface and offering users plenty of options to play with. |

ChrisTV Lite |
Review: ChrisTV Lite is the stripped down version of the CrisTV Suite. This entry-level product allows you to seamlessly watch online television via analog cards that feature WDM driver support. Recording TV channels is not available in the Lite version, but upgrading to Standard or Pro makes that possible. The installation process ends with a Configuration Wizard that allows you to choose the type of Video Capturing Device that you plan on using with ChrisTV Lite. This is with reference to the TV card you own (the selection includes cards with WDM driver, Combo Card, Graphic Card with Video Input or Other Devices, such as Webcams or DVcams). ChrisTV Lite starts off by performing a simple auto scan that results in displaying a list of all the detected channels. The application also provides you with possibilities to process images and as such, offers you access to zoom, capturing and aspect ratio configuration. You can freeze live streaming if you want to take a break or take a snapshot. Fast forwarding is also possible, letting you skip those long and annoying commercials. Moreover, because ChrisTV Lite is based on buffering encoded images taken from live streaming, you can move back and forth when viewing a live TV show. You can even create slideshows after taking snapshots, and the TV teletext feature is also available. In addition, if you are viewing a video which is very dynamic (e.g. sports) or has a lot of details (e.g. falling snow), there is a filter you can use to preserve the image quality, called DScaler Deinterlace Filter. In conclusion, if you?re looking to watch TV shows, concerts, TV series, ChrisTV Lite is the perfect choice. If you want to record all of those, an upgrade is necessary. |

Chords! (formerly Easy Chords) |
Review: Winamp is a popular application among users worldwide, mainly due to its ease-of-use and intuitive interface. Another reason why users like Winamp is because it supports plugins which add more value to its functions. Such an example is Chords!. Once installed onto a computer where Winamp is already set up, this audio plugin analyzes and identifies the chords and guitar tabs of a chosen track. It is instantly displayed when Winamp is launched, and users simply need to choose any song from their playlist to be analyzed - this step needs to be completed individually for each song in the playlist. After the scanning is finished and the song is played within Winamp, the plugin displays all the detected chords of the song, so that music enthusiasts can easily follow the notes along with the song. In addition, when people want to copy the chords or just take some time to analyze the displayed notation, they can simply pause the current track and write down the notes they are interested in. Then they can press the Play button and resume the playback process until the song ends. When Chords! is no longer needed, it can be uninstalled from the Preferences window of Winamp, in the Plugin section, so that all its traces are removed from the computer. To sum it up, Chords! can come in handy to all those who like music and want to improve their knowledge without resorting to costly classes or teachers. Nonetheless, this plugin also needs to be purchased if users are satisfied with its performance and want to use it past the evaluation period. |

Avira Free Antivirus |
Review: Avira AntiVir Personal seems to be the rightchoice for all those who are searching for a solution with decent performance and regular updates, just to be sure infections stay away from their precious data. The developers over at Avira have always offered a well-organized interface, and their latest antivirus solution makes no exception to this rule. Fortunately, although its supposed to fight against viruses, the application comes with a handy user interface that lets you configure it with ease. Avira only offers a bunch of settings, so advanced users should have no problem to deal with them, although beginners should too find the whole application quite easy to use. The installation process is not that pleasant though. If you have Windows Defender installed, Avira advises you to remove it before continuing the installation. We chose ?No? because it would make much more sense to use Avira together with Windows Defender, and not as a single solution. Continuing the installation brings you to another important moment: you must decide whether you wish to install a toolbar, which is actually the reason why the app is marked as ad-supported. Scanning is the kind of process that requires minimal interaction from the user. Choose the hard-disk you want to scan and let Avira do its magic. Scanning is not too fast though, and you may have to wait a little while to get rid of the worms. The speed of the scanning process obviously depends on the amount of data stored on your computer, so more files means more time. Avira promises to protect your computer against viruses, worms and Trojans AntiDialer protection as well as against dialers and rootkits, spyware and adware. In addition, there are dedicated tools to provide mail and web protection, plus a separate firewall to make sure you e going to stay on the safe side. In the end, Aviras antivirus solution seems just right for those who want nothing more than a software capable of blocking viruses and Trojan horses. The interface is more than decent, but a faster scanning process would be great. Still, what you pay is what you get, and Avira is clearly a smart pick. |
