Review: Video CDs is a format used for distributing video content, widely used before the advent of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs. The application can help you create your own VCDs or Super Video CDs (SVCD), watch your favorite movies, view pictures and play audio files on any DVD player. Its interface is rather crowded, comprising a lot of configuration options in a single window. The application provides support for MPEG files and comes with a MPEG pictures encoder (which can be installed or not during the setup process). Beginner users can simply add the files and press the Go button, but advanced ones can configure the Video CD specifications as well. Playback interactivity, the video CD type, the CD writer and the volume label are customizable and the preview window enables you to view the selected video in a separate window. In addition to this, VCDEasy can be used for easily generating chapters and design menus, just as you would when creating a DVD. Furthermore, it enables you to generate simple photo albums or slide shows that are stored on the output VCD / SVCD. Aspect ratio correction, TV cropping, anti-flickering capabilities, adjustable file size and customizable caption texts are other features of the application. Although it does not provide the same technical capability and video quality as DVDs or Blu-Ray discs, Video CDs still have their upholders. That is the reason why VCDEasy can prove to be a handy authoring tool for those who are still using this digital format. |
